Monte Farm Blooms

Like most things on this farm, it began with a dream.

I ordered Erin Benzakein’s Cut Flower Garden in 2018. I was utterly inspired.

As an avid gardener, growing flowers intrigued me. But, I was so focused on growing FOOD, I back-burnered the idea.

I started incorporating more cutting varieties into my home landscape. They made our little cottage just so darling. Those were the house flowers, I thought, I can’t cut those!

After moving to our current farm, I started interplanting flowers in my vegetable garden. I was delighted to see an increase in production due to more pollinators!

Now, we are a full-fledge flower farm. We offer cut flower subscriptions through the Spring, Summer and Fall!

About how we grow- what makes us different

Working with nature, not against it, takes time and patience.

We practice regenerative gardening here, using only organic practices. I would argue beyond organic, because we do not use any pesticides, even “natural” ones like neem oil. Our pollinators are our friends, so we work hard to preserve them by focusing on soil health, and growing a diverse mix of plants to add disease resistance and attract beneficial insects, keeping pests at bay.

We utilize animal inputs, like manure from our goats and chickens, and the hard work of foraging ducks to keep slugs at bay. All of our raised beds were filled with compost made from our own cows, sheep, and goats.

This method of cultivation can take more effort, but all good things do, right?! I find that the whole farm works in harmony growing this way.
